About the Deep Color Arts Program
There is an ongoing challenge communities face with graffiti painters who are most often at-risk youth that have not yet expanded into criminal or violent behavior. They use graffiti as a way to express anger or rebellion against society. Law enforcement agencies and cities report that the cost to clean and repair damage done by graffiti artists is becoming increasingly problematic. Presently there are no available resources in the communities for diversion programs directed specifically towards these kids.
DCP is a program that specifically addresses the challenge of re-directing first time offenders into a mural art project. The teaming up with a professional mentor and other positive role models will give a solid start to opening up a new world of opportunities. The murals will be commissioned for placement in public settings. Besides the completion of murals, there will be special events such as art exhibitions and educational trips (throughout the local community and beyond) to ensure that Deep Color students have plenty of fun, while also learning.
